Archroma has bagged the 2026 ICIS Innovation Award for Best Product Innovation from a large company, validating its proprietary FiberColors platform. The chemical manufacturer successfully synthesizes high-performance sulfur dyes utilizing a minimum of 50 per cent pre-consumer wool waste as a primary feedstock, displacing petroleum-derived raw materials without compromising colorfastness or application standards.
Scaling up agricultural waste
Addressing an acute environmental liability in Europe, where approximately 75 per cent of the continent's annual 200 million kg of wool production is discarded, the technology converts agricultural burden into commercial value. According to Julio Perales, Technical and Product Segment Manager- Denim, Archroma, 1 kg of wool waste yields 10 kg of liquid dye. Premium denim mills, including Türkiye-based Orta Anadolu, have integrated the line into commercial production, meeting rigorous environmental benchmarks such as bluesign criteria, GOTS approval, and ZDHC Gateway Conformance Level 3.
