Bangladesh accumulated Tk 84,002.57 crore through the external trade of raw jute and processed textile items over the trailing ten-year timeframe, according to official disclosures. Khandakar Abdul Muktadir, Textiles and Jute Minister, formally presented these performance metrics to parliament, outlining that foreign shipments comprised 19.25 lakh metric tons of raw agricultural fibre alongside 70.69 lakh metric tons of value-added manufacturing goods. While processed merchandise generated robust commercial returns totaling Tk 71,390.50 crore, raw material dispatches contributed Tk 12,612.07 crore to the national exchequer.

Despite widespread global distribution reaching consumers across 138 territories for manufactured goods and 30 destinations for raw variants, commercial authorities have temporarily suspended unprocessed fiber outflows to prioritize domestic spinning mills. Industry stakeholders indicate that current modernization strategies focus on transitioning state-managed assets into private operational frameworks. The government’s strategic roadmap targets multi-fold expansion by integrating advanced processing technologies and extensive product diversification, notes Muktadir, emphasizing ongoing institutional reforms designed to elevate the natural textile sector into a multi-billion-dollar commercial powerhouse.
