French luxury conglomerate Kering has elevated Sophie Maddaloni to the role of General Secretary, integrating her directly into the executive committee to supervise legal affairs, internal auditing, and corporate security. Operating under Group Chief Operating Officer Jean-Marc Duplaix, Maddaloni's promotion underscores a rigorous internal push for administrative compliance and risk mitigation. Industry analysts note that tightening central oversight is a vital prerequisite as major high-end retail groups navigate uneven consumer demand across global markets.

Retail rationalization and sequential gains

The governance update coincides with a calculated contraction of the group's physical store network, highlighted by 84 net boutique closures achieved during the first half of the year toward a targeted closure of 100 outlets. This selective footprint reduction has stabilized financials, yielding €7.22 billion in revenue during the first half, up 1 per cent on a comparable basis, alongside a recurring operating margin recovery to 12.8 per cent. Flagship label Gucci remains the central focus of this operational overhaul, posting a seven-percentage-point sequential retail improvement in its second quarter despite broader year-on-year corrections.

Focusing on long-term organic growth

Kering is a prominent global luxury goods group that manages an illustrious portfolio of high-end fashion, leather goods, jewelry, and eyewear houses, including Gucci, Saint Laurent, and Bottega Veneta. Anchored in key international markets across Europe, the Americas, and Asia-Pacific, the company focuses on long-term organic growth, enhanced brand desirability, and disciplined retail expansion. Backed by a solid financial framework with a reduced net debt of €3.3 billion, Kering continues to build upon its rich European heritage—originating from the Pinault retail dynasty—to secure sustainable profitability and market leadership across the global luxury sector.
