The Pakistan Textile Exporters Association (PTEA) has stressed for the continuation of Duty Drawback of Taxes (DDT) incentive for further three years to boost the value-added textile exports and uplift the economy.
This will generate approximately 10 per cent annual growth in value-added textile exports and would add $1.5 billion each year to the economy.
As a result of growth-led initiatives of the government, country’s exports surged by 13.1 per cent to in July-March 2017-18 over the corresponding period of last year.
The main driver of this growth was the value-added textile sector as exports of ready-made garments went up 12.56 per cent during the period in value and 12.85 per cent in quantity while those of knitwear edged up 14.12 per cent in value and 3.52 per cent in quantity during these nine months.

Max Fashion showcased its latest 2018 fashion collections for men, women, children and home at a fashion trunk show on May 13, 2018 at Cove Beach in Dubai.
The event featured a series of three different trunk shows under the themes of Rustic Charm. It introduced the Abaya Collection, which was launched recently exclusively online in the UAE.
The collection embraces traditional design and combines it with contemporary style through delicate embroidery, diverse, elegant cuts and stylish draping.

The 27th-annual Apparel Sourcing Show in Guatemala City showcased the latest in new technology and textiles. Held from May 15-17, 2018, the show brought together materials and machine suppliers eager to showcase colorful, quality textiles and new manufacturing tools that are more efficient through offering smarter programming.
The event was organised by Vestex, the Guatemalan association of textile manufacturers and apparel companies, and AGEXPORT, the export association of Guatemala. Guatemala's position as a reliable resource for apparel imports into the United States was an important topic during the show, as the country's factories continue to offer faster turnaround times than Asia and focus on producing high-quality goods.
The Vietnam Ministry of Industry and Trade hosted a Vietnam-US trade forum at New World Hotel in Ho Chi Minh City on May 18.
The main aim of the forum was to provide Vietnamese exporters with up-to-date information about policies, and analyses on assessment of challenges to seize new opportunities for exports.
The event attracted roughly 300 delegates, including enterprises, representatives from Vietnam's business associations and localities, importers, investors, distributors, experts, researchers, and US businesses operating in the Southeast Asian nation.
It provided a platform for entrepreneurs to outline their effective businesses orientations and seek partnership opportunities through introductions, promotions, and trade connectivity.
Cambodian exports to the United States witnessed a sharp increase during the first three months of the year after the US renewed its Generalised System of Preferences in March. These exports were worth $903 million during the first quarter of the year, compared to $719 million during the same period in 2017 – an increase of more than 25.5 percent.
Bulk of these exports comprised travel goods, a category that has attracted a large number of investors after Cambodia was granted duty-free benefits for travel goods exports under the US’s GSP programme in 2016. Orders of garment and footwear products have remained stable.
On March, US President Donald Trump signed the Consolidated Appropriations Act, which extended the country’s GSP programme, a scheme established in 1974 to promote economic growth in the developing world by allowing access to duty-free privileges for least developed countries.
The extension will expire in December 2020.
