Bangladesh is officially reviving its premier textile and ready-made garment trade exposition, Batexpo, after a dormancy stretching over a decade. Scheduled to commence on November 18 at the Bangladesh China Friendship Conference Centre (BCFCC) in Dhaka, the flagship event organized by the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) aims to reintroduce the nation's modernized manufacturing sector to international buyers. Rather than focusing on traditional cultural displays, the revamped two-day convention centers on high-level panel discussions, advanced supply chain automation, and strict sustainability metrics. Through this exhibition, BGMEA aims to firmly establish Bangladesh as a hub for responsible, high-value textile innovation rather than a destination for low-cost apparel, states Md Rezwan Salim, Vice President.

Challenging sourcing realities and export Realignment

The exposition arrives at a critical economic juncture for South Asia's largest textile exporter, which faces intensifying global competition, fluctuating western demand, and recent domestic utility constraints. Industry data indicates that 284 local garment facilities have achieved Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification from the United States Green

Building Council, featuring 121 Platinum-rated units. Organizers plan to leverage these compliance milestones during the expo via guided factory tours for prospective global brands. “Sustaining our competitive edge requires direct engagement with untapped international buyers who have yet to source from our market, proving that our production ecosystem matches rigorous global standards,” noted Masud Kabir, a member of the Steering Committee, Batexpo.

Prioritizing circularity with transparency

First launched in 1989, the Bangladesh Apparel and Textile Exposition serves as the national platform for showcasing ready-made garment manufacturing prowess, raw material innovations, and machinery advancements. The revived event prioritizes global B2B networking, circular economy integration, and transparent trade policies to secure long-term export agreements.
