The global apparel and textile community gathered in full force yesterday, August 25, 2026, as the Autumn Edition of Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics officially opened at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai. Solidifying its standing as the international benchmark for apparel sourcing, the three-day mega-fair spans 240,000 square meters across nine halls, hosting over 3,500 exhibitors from 30 countries and regions while preparing to welcome an estimated 100,000 professional trade buyers from over 100 nations.

Jointly organized by Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd, the Sub-Council of Textile Industry, CCPIT (CCPIT TEX), and the China Textile Information Center, the event runs alongside Yarn Expo Autumn, which gathers nearly 500 exhibitors across 27,000 square meters in Hall 8.2, as well as CHIC and PH Value, creating a fully synchronized, end-to-end sourcing engine for the entire textile pipeline.
Four strategic pillars directing market transformation
To help international brands navigate supply chain shifts, functional demand, and carbon mandates, the 2026 autumn edition is structured around four primary pillars: Performance Textiles, Fashion Forward, Sustainability, and Textile Future.
According to Wilmet Shea, General Manager of Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd, the industry is increasingly seeking integrated solutions combining creativity, technical performance, and circular efficiency. Shea noted during the opening VIP tour that these focused zones are designed to directly connect global procurement teams with market-driven, digitally enabled, and sustainable material alternatives.
Under the Performance Textiles banner, the fair’s upgraded Functional Lab takes center stage around The CUBE, a dedicated display showcasing breakthrough innovations in thermal regulation, active comfort, and multi-environment protection. International material specialists have anchored this space with cutting-edge developments, including technical barrier textiles and cotton-free performance denim from Burlington of the United States, specialized synthetic fibers from Switzerland’s EMS-GRILTECH, Nordic-engineered waterproof seam-tapes and bonding films from LOXY AS of Norway, and PRUTAC high-tenacity nylon 6,6 developed by China's Prutex in collaboration with INVISTA.
Fashion Trends, Circularity, and Digital Innovation
The fair’s design direction is led by the scent-infused Intertextile Directions Trend Forum under the Fashion Forward pillar. Curated alongside creative agency MUSEATIVE, the forum brings the Autumn/Winter 2027–28 seasonal forecast theme, A QUEST FOR ESSENCE, to life through integrated sample showcases from the Premium Wool Zone, Beyond Denim, and the Functional Lab, with creative director Kai Chow leading dedicated guided tours.

Circularity and environmental compliance are anchored within the Sustainability pillar via the Econogy Hub and the Econogy Finder tool, which direct buyers to independently verified eco-friendly suppliers while hosting deep-dive sessions on eliminating petroleum-dependent fibers.
Concurrently, the Textile Future pillar spotlights the Innovation and Digital Solutions Zone, showcasing AI-powered product development and digital supply-chain optimization tools. Building on its successful spring debut, the specialized Pet Boutique has also made its first autumn appearance, demonstrating how advanced performance and functional textiles are rapidly crossing over into the premium pet lifestyle segment.

Targeted sourcing, Buyer Delegations, and value chain trust
International participation remains central to the Shanghai fair, anchored by national and regional pavilions from Hong Kong, India, Italy, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Taiwan, and Türkiye, alongside the dedicated France Zone. Sourcing options have further broadened with new exhibitor contingents from Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Nigeria, Norway, Sweden, and Thailand, featuring notable debuts such as functional hardware from Duraflex USA, long-staple cotton from the Egyptian Cotton Association, flame-retardant Protex and Kanecaron modacrylic eco-fur fibers from Japan's Kaneka, and plastic polymer recycling technology from Nigeria's Starich Recycling Technology.

Commercial deal-making is reinforced by 330 pre-scheduled B2B matchmaking meetings tailored for 50 selected VIP buyers from 14 nations, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Brazil, Spain, and the United Arab Emirates. Furthermore, nine visiting trade delegations comprising 180 delegates from Bangladesh, Italy, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Thailand, Türkiye, and Vietnam are actively engaging in guided matching tracks, backed by the digital Connect PLUS platform.
These commercial activities are paired with high-level fringe forums addressing industry compliance. Key panels include a supply-chain traceability summit co-hosted with a&s—featuring Donghua University, Coats Digital, Haelixa, and OEKO-TEX outlining DNA-based physical tracking and digital standards—alongside preferred fiber sessions co-organized by Textile Exchange with leaders from UNIFI, Birla Cellulose, and Circ Inc, and climate-adaptive fabric dialogues led by the Hong Kong Research Institute of Textiles and Apparel (HKRITA).
Intertextile Night: Global solidarity and long-term partnership

The opening day culminated yesterday evening with the official Intertextile Night celebration, welcoming international dignitaries, VIP buyers, and long-standing industry partners. Distinguished guests included His Excellency Adama Dosso, Ambassador of Côte d’Ivoire to the People’s Republic of China, who joined CCPIT TEX Chairman Xu Yingxin and Executive Vice Chairman Liang Pengcheng.

Delivering the keynote address, Detlef Braun, Member of the Executive Board of Messe Frankfurt GmbH, reflected on the endurance of the partnership and the scale of the global textile market. Addressing the audience, Braun acknowledged that while the global trading environment is facing the most complex set of headwinds seen in his 40-year career, the gathering of nearly 3,600 exhibitors in Shanghai proves the indispensability of direct international exchange. Citing the German proverb, "You can't go fast if you go alone, but you can't go far if you go together," Braun praised the multi-decade collaboration with CCPIT TEX that has elevated Intertextile Shanghai into the premier apparel textile event in the world.
Braun highlighted that within Messe Frankfurt’s global Textpertise Network—which currently manages 66 textile fairs worldwide uniting 23,000 exhibitors and over 500,000 trade buyers—the Shanghai exhibition serves as the essential global barometer where innovation, craftsmanship, and business optimism align. The fair continues its run through Thursday, August 27, 2026.
