Amazon to venture into physical retail with a store in Los Angeles

E-commerce giant Amazon plans to open its first physical clothing store in Los Angeles later this year. As per a Xinhua Net report, the e-commerce company will open its first store in Glendale, Los Angeles. The store spread over 30,000 sq ft will feature women's and men's apparel, shoes and accessories from well-known and emerging brands. Its prices will cater to a wide range of shoppers.

The store will allow shoppers to use their smartphones while shopping. This will enable them to view additional colors and sizes and product ratings, and notify store employees to put an item in their fitting room.

Since the last few years, Amazon has been expanding its physical stores. Last March, it surpassed Walmart as the No. 1 apparel retailer in the United States as its apparel and footwear sales grew by approximately 15 percent in 2020 to more than $41 billion.

The company ventured into physical retail by opening a bookstore in 2015 and then launched a number of traditional stores that feature the top-selling items on its official website.
