Vietnam's textile and garment sector has established a robust export target of $48 billion, driven by surging international demand and strategic migration of manufacturing orders from competing South Asian hubs. Industry data indicates cumulative export turnover for the initial months of the year has already surpassed $32 billion, reflecting a robust year-on-year expansion of nearly 11 per cent. Major manufacturing clusters across Ho Chi Minh City and Binh Duong are operating at near-full capacity to fulfill lucrative seasonal contracts originating from the United States and the European Union.

Navigating compliance mandates and technological upgrades

Despite favorable volume growth, domestic producers face stringent compliance demands, particularly regarding environmental traceability and the European Union's stringent green manufacturing directives. Factories are allocating significant capital toward energy-efficient machinery and digital auditing systems to meet carbon-neutrality benchmarks without inflating operational expenses. Achieving our export milestones requires aggressive modernization of our spinning and weaving infrastructure, noted Nguyen Van Thao, Vice Chairman, Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association. Our strategic focus remains centered on moving up the value chain from cut-and-sew assembly to original design manufacturing.

Textile sector operational framework and market scope

Vietnam's textile and apparel sector comprises thousands of export-oriented manufacturing enterprises specializing in knitted garments, technical fabrics, and finished apparel. Serving primary markets across North America, East Asia, and Europe, the industry targets steady long-term capacity expansion, backed by favorable bilateral trade agreements and a rich historical foundation in contract garment manufacturing.
